Ferne McCann divides fans with her 'awful' baby name choice

The TOWIE star pre-warned fans it would be something a bit different

Ferne McCann has shared a sweet snap to reveal the name of her newborn baby girl - and received a divided response from fans.

The 27-year-old new mum first revealed her pregnancy in April this year, and now her daughter has arrived, the TOWIE star shared a picture introducing her bundle of joy to her 1.8 million Instagram.

The beautiful image showed the new mum cradling her newborn daughter, and kissing her head, under a wall bunting spelling out the moniker.

'I thought today would be the perfect day to tell you all her name...meet Sunday 💗💗💗' Ferne wrote in the caption for the snap, which quickly garnered over 4k comments.

The 'unusual' choice split the opinions of her fans, with one even joking: 'I bet Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday arnt happy....'

'Literally cant name her that. Like its harsh,' another wrote, followed by a third who exclaimed: 'Shocking name.'

'Awful name.... Sunday? ....awful,' one disgruntled fan declared.

However, not all of Ferne's supporters thought she'd made a bad choice.

'Sunday's a beautiful name for a beautiful baby. Congratulations,' said one, while another added: 'I actually adore this name😍😍'.

'Sunday is a gorgeous name. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urbans daughter is named Sunday and they call her Sunny for short I think it's cute' another agreed.

Some others have also pointed out that the name Sunday has a 'meaning' coming from the old traditional fortune-telling song.

The rhyme 'Monday's child', from 1838, quotes that Sundays's child is 'bonnie blyth, good and gay.' Many might recognise the song in full: 'Monday's child is fair of face, Tuesday's child is full of grace Wednesday's child is full of woe, Thursday's child has far to go, Friday's child is loving and giving, Saturday's child works hard for a living, But the child who is born on the Sabbath day, Is bonnie and blithe and good and gay.'

Before revealing her choice of name to the world, Ferne admitted to OK! Magazine that she was torn between two options: 'I had a girls' name but I've just thought of another one I like so, if it's a girl, I'm going to see what the baby looks like and then decide between the two.'
