Tian Tian the giant panda at Edingburgh zoo is pregnant and likely to give birth this month!
The 10-year-old panda underwent artificial insemination in April after her male counterpart Yang Guang (loaned to the zoo from China) stubbornly decline to mate with her.
Funny factor: Cute! We can’t wait to see the new baby panda pics!

Lilo the wannabe tiger
What’s the story? Lilo is a tiger wannabe! Matt Curan from Surfers Paradise in Australia decided to get 10-month old Lilo dyed this adorable tiger pattern for his niece’s birthday party. She loved it and even said he looked like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh. We reckon everyone on the beach will have to take a second look at him, or they’ll have quite the fright!
Funny factor: Hilarious! We want one!

The sheepdogs of Cees Bol
What’s the story? A pair of dog lovers decided to take their passion one step further and photograph their much loved Sheepdogs in as many human-like ways possible. This is by far our favourite pic of sisters Sophie and Sarah having a very civilised banquet together!
Funny factor: Brilliant! Wish we could join them for dinner.

Happy seal
What’s the story? A cheery-looking southern elephant seal in the Falkland Islands was only too happy to pose for the cameras.
Funny factor: Hilarious! You’ve got to love a smiley seal!

What’s the story? This lion cub may have bitten off more than it could chew when it tried to take a nibble from its mother’s back.

What’s the story? This squirrel knows how to cool down – have an ice cream. We’re not quite sure how he got the it (let’s hope he didn’t steal it from a child) but he certainly looks like he’s enjoying it!

What’s the story? What better way to keep cool on a hot day than a little outdoor shower?

Seriously sleepy panda
What’s the story? This is one seriously sleepy panda! The gorgeous cub is only 50 days old and she still doesn’t have a proper name yet. Keepers, who are hand-rearing her, have nicknamed her ‘Lazy Girl’ because she still hasn’t opened her eyes and spends her days eating and sleeping – cute! We can’t get over how adorable she is.

Mum and baby aardvark
What’s the story? Colchester Zoo has a new addition to its aardvark family – a super cute baby aardvark. The baby was born to mother Oq and the pair will stay in the birthing burrow until it’s strong enough to be mixed with the other aardvarks.
Funny factor: So sweet!

What’s the story? A mother bear teaches her cubs how to play ball at a zoo in Germany with plenty of splashing around in the water and passing the ball around before it was clawed to pieces!

Adorable owls
What’s the story? Two orphaned baby owls are having a hoot of a time after moving into the home of their zoo keeper, Jimmy Robinson. They were hatched in an incubator at Longleat Safari Park and are being hand reared and given 24-hour care by Jimmy.

What’s the story? A squirrel enjoys drinking a peanut-flavoured smoothie through a straw in the park.

What’s the story? A baby long-tailed monkey relaxes with its mum and dad at a wildlife refuge in Indonesia.

What’s the story? A poodle at Crufts 2012 gets a blow dry in preparation for the annual dog show.

What’s the story? Thought keeping a dog was expensive? Well Emperor the Red Tibetan mastiff will cost its new owner a whopping £1million before it even reaches its new dog basket. The huge pooch is on sale at a trade show in China.

What’s the story? This duck had a less-than-smooth-landing when it tried to land on a frozen pond in Portsmouth. After slipping and sliding around, it figured out that this funny walk would get it safely across the ice.

What’s the story? This may look like any other baby elephant born at London Zoo but this new calf’s mum had a whopping 2-year pregnancy. When junior finally came out, he was the smallest baby elephant ever recorded at the zoo.

What’s the story? A rescued slow loris shows its fear of having an injection. It was soon distracted from the pain with a grape. There are only around 1,500 slow loris left in China and this one was saved from being sold at an illegal pet market.

What’s the story? These giant bears wandered out of the woods and made their way onto a town street in Japan. They then spent 40 minutes exploring the streets.

What’s the story? This dog and mynah bird in China are inseparable friends. So much so that the bird rides on a perch on its friend’s back! Their owner says their friendship grew after staying in the room for a long time.

What’s the story? A herd of sheep took to a London street to promote the Campaign for Wool in educating shoppers on the benefits of wearing wool.

What’s the story? This 15-day baby panda is one of the first to be born at Madrid Zoo, Spain since 1982. It’s a twin and so small that it fits in the palm of your hand.
Funny factor: Super cute!

What’s the story? A squirrel falls asleep in a pair of Homer Simpson slippers. The owner of the slippers and the garden where the squirrel returns to has nicknamed it Barney from The Simpsons.

What’s the story? Three-week-old Sumatra tiger cub Daseep was surprisingly born by her mother Malea who was supposed to be infertile. The baby tiger made her first public appearance at a zoo in Germany.

Two-legged pig
What’s the story? A disabled pig in China walks upside down on its two front legs and has become a local celebrity. Born with just two legs, it was trained to walk by her owner who has received an offer from the circus to buy the pig but refuses as he’s grown attached.
Funny factor: Wonderfully weird! Who says pigs need four legs to get around?

Polar bears fighting
What’s the story? It may look like a fierce fight between two polar bears as one swats the other with a large paw before having his ear bitten, but Nanuq and Sprinter are simply saying Funny factor: Nice to know they’re not brawling but not sure we’d like to be greeted by a polar bear!

It’s all white now…
What’s the story? This little fella is a very rare albino hedgehog – there’s only one albino born in every several hundred thousand hedgehogs! He’s being cared for at a centre in Poland which is dedicated entirely to looking after sick hedgehogs.
Funny factor: If he wasn’t so prickly, we’d want to give him a hug.

Donkey dreadlocks
What’s the story? You may be wondering what this animal is but it’s actually a rare dreadlocked Baudet de Poitou donkey. They are believed to be one of the oldest donkey species in the world but with only 50 foals born worldwide every year, the species is now rarer than white rhinos and great pandas.
Funny factor: Very funny!

Getting to know you…
What’s the story? You’d be forgiven for thinking these two rhinos didn’t like each other but in fact they lock horns to get to know each other better. Usually black rhinos are solitary animals but Manyara has taken a liking to an older female rhino, Sita, at the Paignton Zoo in Devon.
Funny factor: This looks a bit of a dangerous way to get to know someone!

Little miracle
What’s the story? This tiny 10-day-old panda is one of this year’s biggest succeses at the Giant Panda Breeding and Nursing Centre in China. The youngster is being reared in an enclosed nursery because of the danger panda mothers pose to their tiny offspring. At more than 800 times the size of their young, it’s incredibly easy for them to roll onto and crush their babies.
Funny factor: We can’t believe that this little thing grows into such a big animal!

That’s a first!
What’s the story? This pic was taken from the world’s first ice cream van for dogs. Yes, it’s true, dogs can now enjoy the K99 frozen treats when out and about in London. The treats comes in two flavours – Dog Eat Hog World (meaty gammon and chicken sorbet) or Canine Cookie Crunch (mixed dog biscuits and vanilla ice cream in a cone)
Funny factor: We’re not sure if this unusual craze will take off but the dog looks happy enough!

Identity crisis!
What’s the story? This four week old piglet actually thinks she’s a horse. Despite the size difference, Daisy the piglet likes nothing more than to eat and and go on walks with her horse friends at the Fun-e-Farm petting zoo in Australia.
Funny factor: We say, if Daisy wants to act like a horse, then why not?!

‘Come on dad, I want to play’
What’s the story? It’s not all pouncing about and preying on food for the kings of the jungle – even they need a rest every once in a while but this lion’s cub doesn’t seem to want to lie down and sleep.
Funny factor: We wonder how long it took before the cub gave up trying to get his dad up?

Cheeky thing!
What’s the story? A fisherman was stunned when a cheeky frog jumped into his net and swallowed his catch whole. The frog lay in wait for the fisherman to catch something then dived on in to eat it.
Funny factor: How on earth can that frog fit that massive fish in its mouth?

How stylish!
What’s the story? This well-dressed dog was one of the stars of New York’s Pet Fashion Week. Some ‘gowns’ for pets were selling for as much as $1000! No sign of recession here, Funny factor: Pretty cute – if a little ridiculous.

Give us a go!
What’s the story? After a child dropped a Nintendo DS computer console into her enclosure, Bawang the gorilla instantly ran over to pick it up and hold it up as if she was playing it. It wasn’t long before her baby son came over to take a peek too.
Funny factor: So funny – she’s even holding it properly!

Daredevil monkeys!
What’s the story? Have you ever seen kids jumping off rocks at the beach? Well these monkeys are doing the same! Passers by spotted the little chaps repeatedly jumping off the edge and then running back round and doing it again!
Funny factor: They’re playing just like little kids – hilarious!

Golden tigers
What’s the story? Two very rare golden-coloured tiger cubs have been unveiled to the public in China. The three-month-old cubs are a variation of the Bengal tiger and make up less than 30 of these incredible creatures worldwide thanks to the rarity of their gold colour genes.
Funny factor: These two definitely have the midas touch!

Elephant seal
What’s the story? This super-cute seal just couldn’t stay awake any longer. The massive mammal decided to rest his eyes after searching for food.
Funny factor: Adorable – we want to cuddle it!

African lion
What’s the story? Even the most ferocious beasts need to take a break sometimes. This African lion clearly had enough running about in the scorching sun he decided to have a nap.
Funny factor: Ah bless – we love how he’s shielding his eyes from the sun!

Cheetah
What’s the story? Known for being the fastest animals on land, it’s no wonder cheetahs need a lot of sleep.
Funny factor: They look so soft and fluffy!

Polar bear
What’s the story? How sweet does this mother and baby pair of polar bears look sleeping in the snow? We love how the pup is cuddled into her mum to keep warm.
Funny factor: Nature as it’s cutest!

Grizzly bear
What’s the story? This grizzly just couldn’t stay awake any longer.
Funny factor: While it looks harmless asleep we definitely wouldn’t to wake it up!

Baby elephants
What’s the story? Just days old, this newborn baby elephant is quick to make friends at Hannover Zoo in Germany. The as yet nameless baby, who weighs 95kg and is 89cm tall, is already paired up with another youngster in the elephant enclosure.
Funny factor: They look so adorable together!

This squirrel is going nuts!
What’s the story? A very smart (and hungry) squirrel tries its hardest to get at a hanging bird feeder containing its favourite food. The owner of the feeder had adapted it to try and stop squirrels getting at the seeds but this one managed to get around that.
Funny factor: More like clever factor!

Pig Dog
What’s the story? It’s Babe all over again! This miniature pig is convinced he’s a dog. After mingling with a number of puppies at the Animal Rescue centre in Sydney, Wilbur, the mini piggie picked up a number of ‘ruff’ habits and can now perform a number of tricks usually reserved for dogs only.
Funny factor: We’d love to take Wilbur for a walk!

Tag Gorilla style
What’s the story? New research from German scientists show that gorillas play games of ‘tag’ just like humans. Video footage shows the playful primates hitting each other on the shoulder and then running off to hide.
Funny factor: We’re not sure we want to play tag with gorillas but they look like they’re having a lot of fun!

What you got there?
What’s the story? As China swelters under a heatwave, animals at Xiang Jiang Safari Park are being fed ice creams and watermelon slices in a bid to cool down. This little orangutan obviously wasn’t content with his lot and wanted a piece of what his friends had.
Funny factor: Too much to bear – look at the one on the left tucking into a Cornetto!

Embarrassing mum
What’s the story? We’ve all been there when everything your parents do seems to embarrass you, well spare a thought for Kimmie the young giraffe who tried and failed to avoid a kiss from her mum. Unfortunately the three-month old wasn’t quick enough and her 14ft-tall mother planted a sloppy smacker on her cheek. According to Geoff Curtis, who took the pic, Kimmie even pulled a face as if to say ‘Awww, mum’.
Funny factor: Very funny!

Bionic cat
What’s the story? Bless! Poor little Oscar the cat was given a new lease on life thanks to the BBC One show, The Bionic Vet, after his rear paws were amputated by a combine harvester as he lay in the sun. Oscar now comes complete with two bionic legs to get him about.
Funny factor: Adorable – we love a survivor!

Piggy in wellies
What’s the story? Aww! How cute is Clive the teacup pic, who was forced to don his bright red Wellington boots after rain coated the yard at Pennywell Farm in Devon. The micro-pig who will grow to just 14 inches long managed to avoid getting muddy while looking ultra adorable at the same time.
Funny factor: Couldn’t get much more cute than this!

Superdog
What’s the story? Majesty the dog was just one of the 1245 participants who took part in the Guiness World Record attempt at the most number of people in superhero constumes in one location. The number of people who appeared dressed up in Melbourne did infact beat the previous record of 1091 which happened in Britain.
Funny factor: More like super factor!

Swan and duckling
What’s the story? We love this cute pic of a mother swan with her baby. This tiny creature, who was born at Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, is the first cygnet to be born this year. It is believed that the arrival of the first born is sent to mean the summer has officially started.
Funny factor: Very – it looks so soft and fluffy!

Lemur piggy back
What’s the story? Keepers at a zoo on the Isle of Wight are jumping for joy after the new arrival of a baby lemur. Crowds of people have flocked to catch a glimpse of the super cute youngster and his mum Hira ever since he was born last month.
Funny factor: We now want to go to the Isle of Wight!

What’s the story? Two orphaned baby longtailed tits have found a new home since being separated from their parents. Panda
What’s the story? An 8-month old panda cub happily plays with a toy donated by the public at San Diego Zoo in America. The toy, and others like it, were made possible through an online baby shower for the panda, Yun Zi, and his family.

Mummy and baby hedgehogs
What’s the story? A mother hedgehog and her six newborns were discovered in a restaurant warehouse in China. Workers found the mum with her cute and very tiny babies when they heard rustling sounds. The babies which are the size of adult thumbs, have soft needles when they’re born which turn hard three days after.
Funny factor: We want to hold one (before they get spiky)

Parrot taking a dip
What’s the story? Jacquille the parrot couldn’t take the Costa Rican heat any longer so decided to take a dip in a teacup. The pretty polly, who lives on a tour boat, happily splashed around in the water to the amusement of pleasure cruisers.

Peeping marmot
What’s the story? A yellow-bellied marmot was spotted taking death-defying peaks from a hole in the road in America. The cute critter luckily managed to avoid the on-coming traffic as he ducked his head in and out of the hole.

Puppy love
What’s the story? Ginger, a pint-sized pup became instant friends with Seamus, a 63kg French Mastiff when they met at a training camp in Australia. Seamus, already one of the Australia’s best Guide Dogs will help train Ginger to follow in his footsteps.
Funny factor: Off the scales!

Rare fox cub
What’s the story? This little critter is one of three triple fennec fox cubs born as part of a breeding experiment at Drusilla’s Park Zoo in East Sussex. The unamed animals, that usually live in the Sahara desert, are the first cubs to survive in the UK since 2008.
Funny factor: So sweet, we want one now

Brave butterfly
What’s the story? A brave butterfly took a gamble when it landed on the snout of a hungry cayman in Brazil. The deadly reptile, which is similar to an aligator, was resting by the side of the river when the butterfly came along. Without flinching, it let the butterfly make its way right to the cayman’s eyes before flying off.
Funny factor: We would’ve run a mile!

Tiny treat
What’s the story? The Stamper family are enjoying the newest addition to their farm after their miniature Mediterranean donkey gave birth to a baby they named Bluebell. These rare animals are already popular in America, but are just starting to become better know over here. At full size, Bluebell will be about 34inches tall.
Funny factor: Cute!

Hungry chipmunk
What’s the story? A rare sight of a chipmunk stuffing a nut in its mouth has been captured on camera in Canada. Christian Stepien took the pic of the chipmunk Penelope, who has become a regular in his garden after plucking up the courage to be fed by hand.
Funny factor: Amazing – how does that big nut fit in her mouth?

Voting meerkat
What’s the story? In the run-up to the General Election, the London Zoo has decided to get a few of its inhabitants in the political mood. A group of meerkat’s have been given a miniature post box and coloured letters to post to remind visitors to vote in next week’s election.
Funny factor: Fun for the meerkats no doubt!

Lonely coypu
What’s the story? A Chinese zoo is looking for a ‘Miss Right’ to join their lonely coypu (a rodent similar to a brown rat). Liky, has lived in the zoo for 10 years but his owners are now trying to find him a ‘wife’. The ad reads: ‘I Liky am a lovely 10 year old boy, looking for a 6-10 year-old wife who should be less than 18kg’.
Funny factor? Aah, we hope Liky finds a girl soon!

Charging hippo
What’s the story? RUN! A day out enjoying the South African wildlife turned into a hellish ordeal for one family after they were charged at by a hippo. The family had strayed too close to the protective mother’s grazing area and had to run for their lives. Luckily no one was hurt.
Funny factor: More like fright factor – we’d be scared out of our wits!

What’s the story? Pooch pals Bronx the enormous mastiff and Rocky the Yorkshire terrier hang out together at the Melbourne Animal Hospital as part of the PALS (Pets As Loving Support) programme.

What’s the story? Amy the rabbit held the record for the world’s biggest rabbit in 2008 weighing in at three stone! Sadly Amy’s no longer with us but her grandson Darius is thought to be the next record-breaker at four feet long!

What’s the story: Spring’s starting to bloom and with it comes some cute baby animals, especially at Pennywell Farm in Devon. A group of six fluffy ducklings were snapped enjoying the sunny weather while riding a skateboard.

Badger and otter best mates
What’s the story? Unlikely friends Brock the otter cub and Bumble Bee the badger cuddled up together at the World Wildlife Centre in Somerset. Maybe Brock was tired and Bumble Bee offered a lift!

What’s the story? This meerkat’s soaking up the rays at the Marwell Wildlife Conservation Park. Or maybe he’s just waiting for someone to rub his belly.

What’s the story? African elephant Five, has become an artistic wonder after creating a series of ?masterpieces? at West Midlands Safari Park. Armed with some paint and an easel this elephant regularly takes time out for some creative fun.

What’s the story? This zebra diced with death when it leaned into the gaping mouth of a hippo. Despite the danger, the zebra, who was actually cleaning the hippo?s teeth, escaped Funny factor: Woah! It’s a dangerous job being a dentist

Bald aardvark
What’s the story? This baby aardvark became the fourth offspring to be born to the only successful aardvark breeding group in the UK. Mum and baby have moved into a specially built burrow where they are currently bonding. Aww.
