that's exactly what my partner said about the difference between Moorhens and coots as I didn't know the difference. I seem to see far more coots about on the various lakes an ponds of my local parks and nature reserves up North!.


This ISNT a tortoise but a turtle (look at the other one in the water) or maybe even a terrapin!! Also the 'bird' is a moorhen, which is also a water bird, so they obviously live in the same lake or river. The way to tell a moorhen from a coot is that the moorhen has a red stripe on its face (r in moorhen = red) and the coot has a white stripe. Baby coots and moorhens are amongst the ugliest babies in the world. They are lovely, with very small wings etc, but extremely ugly until they mature a little/
