By now, many children can speak clearly and make themselves understood to adults. They may still have trouble pronouncing some sounds - particularly 'th', 'r', 'ch', 'j' and 'l', and it may take another year or two to master these. Your child is likely to be interested in learning to write, and most children start with their name, so write down the letters for them to copy. They may also begin to recognise a few words in a favourite book. Help them to develop this skill by underlining words with your finger as you read.
