Helen Glover and Steve Backshall confirm she’s miscarried one of their unborn twins

Helen Glover has shared some heartbreaking news with fans.

The Olympic rower took to Twitter yesterday to reveal that she’s miscarried one of the twins she was expecting with her husband Steve Backshall, 44.

‘Thanks for all your lovely messages,’ Helen’s sad status began.

‘We’ve had the hard news that one baby hasn’t made it but we are very excited and hopeful for the remaining baby to arrive this summer xx.’

Deeply saddened by the married couple’s loss, a number of Helen’s followers posted messages of condolence for the sports star to read.

‘Sending so much love xx 💗,’ said 29-year-old former competitive swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who shares a young daughter named Summer with her ex-partner Harry Needs.

TV presenter Ben Fogle, 44, penned a reply on behalf of himself and his wife Marina, saying: ‘We are sending you both lots of love x.’

A third follower also wrote some words of encouragement, having been through the same tragic experience herself many years ago.

‘Stay excited and keep hoping. I lost one twin when I was 4 months and gave birth to the other naturally though 4 weeks early as the pregnancy continued as a twin pregnancy,’ she told Helen.

‘My surviving twin, @joetomkelly, will be 28 tomorrow and is my pride and joy x.’

Steve also confirmed the duo’s loss on Twitter, writing: ‘Many thanks for all your kind messages. We’ve had the news that one twin has not survived, but are still looking forward to our new addition this summer. Sb.’

The announcement comes just weeks after Helen, 31, and BAFTA-winning wildlife presenter Steve revealed that they were starting a family together.

Helen and Steve became a item in 2015 after meeting at a Sport Relief event and got engaged a year later while on holiday in Namibia.
