‘I thought she was going to die’ Jamelia opens up about the traumatic moment she feared she’d lost her baby girl

Jamelia has spoken out about the moment she feared she'd lost her newborn baby.

In a television appearance earlier today, the Superstar singer recalled how she was cuddling her four-week-old tot – who she welcomed  last year – when the little one suddenly jerked her body backwards.

‘After two minutes, I remember my daughter going limp,’ she revealed during the emotional interview on ITV’s This Morning.

‘I felt like she was giving up. I thought she was going to die.’

Jamelia went on to tell husband and wife presenting duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that her other children reacted quickly by making a call to the emergency services.

Despite the fact she was panicking, Jamelia managed to follow instructions given over the phone until the medical professionals arrived.

‘If it wasn’t for my older daughters, I don’t know if True would still be here. I did not cope well with the pressure, I didn’t know what to do,’ she tearfully admitted.

Clearly deeply affected by the terrifying situation, the 37-year-old continued by urging other parents to take time learning the basics of first aid.

‘Don’t make the same mistake I did. Get yourself educated and if your child stops breathing, you will know what to do,’ she continued.

‘A lot of people make the wrong assumptions. This is why they encourage you to get first aid training on a yearly basis.’

Jamelia believes that the training she’s since undergone has armed her with crucial knowledge that she can now confidently deploy whenever her baby daughter appears to be in danger.

She added: ‘Even up to yesterday she had an episode, she was choking and I was able to deal with it and she was fine within about five seconds. The difference of having that knowledge is invaluable. As a mother you want to be in control.’

True was born in December last year, shortly after Jamelia revealed that she’d tied the knot in secret. Jamelia has not chosen to publicly name her new husband and father of her youngest child.

The dad of the Loose Women regular’s 16-year-old daughter Teja is Jamelia’s former music manager Terry Wallan. She welcomed Tiani, 12, a few years later during her marriage to footballer Darren Byfield.
