Kelly Clarkson defends her decision to spank her children

The mum-of-two speaks candidly about the way she disciplines her son and daughter

Kelly Clarkson has opened up about how she disciplines her children, saying that she sometimes spanks them if they're not behaving.

The singer often opens up about her experiences as a mum and in a new interview she's revealed that she isn't adverse to spanking her children when they step out of line.

'I'm not above a spanking, which people aren't necessarily into. And I don't mean like hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking', she said.

'I'm from the South, y'all, so we get spankings. My mom would call the principal if I ever ended up in the principal's office and give permission for her to spank me.

'I'm a well-rounded individual with a lot of character, so I think it's fine.'

Kelly - who found fame back in 2002 when she won the inaugural season of hit show American Idol - revealed that she always verbally lets her daughter know if her behaviour is unacceptable first.

'I warn her, I'm like, "I'm gonna spank you on your bottom if you don't stop right now. Like, this is ridiculous".'

Kelly did however go on to say that she wouldn't feel comfortable discipling her little ones in this way while out and about.

'So that's a tricky thing when you're out in public, 'cause then people are like, you know, they think that's wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking.'

Kelly and husband Brandon Blackstock are parents to a girl named River Rose and a boy called Remington Alexander.

The 35-year-old often shares shots of her brood on social media, including an adorable picture of her youngest engrossed in his favourite TV show.

'Unfortunately he gets this gaze from me 🤣 he's completely captivated by Puppy Dog Pals', she joked.

'I had to say his name like 10 times before he broke from this position. #RemyB #mamasboy.'
