Great British Bake Off stars Mel and Sue to bring back The Generation Game

The presenters will host a four episode version of the game show

It seems that a revival of old game shows is becoming a new trend - with the Crystal Maze popping back up, Blind Date appearing again and Pat Sharp hoping to revive the classic ITV show Fun House.

Now, we can add the Generation Game to the list, as ex-Great British Bake Off presenters, Mel and Sue, will return to the BBC as the shows hosts, helping the contestants win the most popular prize - the cuddly toy!

The show has been commissioned by the BBC for four episodes and will follow the same format as it did in previous series, with family members teaming up to compete against other contestants in a series of tasks to win prizes.

Mel and Sue said about appearing on the show: 'It's a cuddly toy, it's a toaster, it's a circular power saw, no it's Mel and Sue doing the Generation Game! We can't believe it, we are so excited!'

Sir Bruce Forsyth was longest running presenter of the show, between both 1971 and 1977, and bought it back for a revival between 1990 and 1994, before Jim Davidson took over the reigns.

This time around the contestants will be picked out of the audience to play the games, with one pair making it to the conveyor belt - where they have to remember a series of prizes in order to win them.

Charlotte Moore, the director of BBC content, said: 'The Generation Game is an iconic BBC One show, so to be able to bring it back for today's audience with Mel and Sue overseeing things is a wonderful moment for the channel.'

The show, which has yet to have a launch date, was also bought back for two special charity shows, with Vernon Kay and Graham Norton both hosting the show.
