‘I am retiring the boobs’ Mum sparks debate by saying she’s ‘done with breastfeeding’ after three months

A mum has sparked debate on social media after saying that she was ‘done with breastfeeding’, because she was ‘over it’.

Cameran Eubanks, who featured in an American reality show called Southern Charm, took to her Instagram account to reveal she was going to stop breastfeeding her baby, after three months.

I know I’m opening up the flood gates with this one.😬

She wrote: ‘Today marks the day I am DONE with breastfeeding. Gave it a good almost three months and I am retiring the boobs.

Cameran then goes on to say that she shared her decision in a bid to help other mums feel less alone and less judged by society if they choose not to breastfeed.

‘Writing this in hopes it will make other mothers feel less alone. You see, I’m not quitting because my milk supply dried up or because I’m sick… I’m quitting because I’m just plain OVER IT. By CHOICE.

‘I know I will get lectured and judged by this but it doesn’t bother me. I need some freedom back for my sanity and the bottle and formula will allow that. You are not a bad mother if you don’t like breastfeeding. A happy mama is the best gift you can give your baby (at least in my opinion).’

The mum’s candid confession sparked a debate in the comments section, with some criticising her decision and accusing her of doing what’s ‘convenient’ for her and not what’s best for her child.

‘Scientifically breast IS best and I had the strength to do what was best for my child, instead of what was convenient for my lifestyle’, one said.

Another commented: ‘This is such an intriguing feed to me… I’m honestly shocked at how many mothers were sooo elated to quit feeding. No judgement here AT ALL.. i just felt totally different. It’s the best thing i ever did.. i just stopped and my son is 3!

‘And I’m pregnant and plan to breastfeed her at least a year .. 3 years was not planned but it worked out that way. He’s never been sick a day in his life yet (knock on wood) and i attribute that to his immunity being built up by breast milk. Either way.. do you! Just feel bad that so many mothers had such horrible experiences 😌’.

A love like no other. 💝

However, the majority of people were praising the mum for being so honest and agreed that breastfeeding is not for everyone.

One said: ‘I never even tried. I pushed that kid out my vajay- that’s enough body damage. My son is beyond healthy. Don’t regret it at all – happy mom happy kid.’

Another wrote: ‘I didn’t want to breastfeed from the beginning, but was made to feel like a horrible mom by the nurses at the hospital so I did. I hated it. I lasted maybe a month. I was a brand new, first time mom, and the last thing I needed was nurses acting like I didn’t want what was best for my baby because I didn’t want to breastfeed.

‘It always makes me so angry to see women criticizing and judging other women for choosing formula. We should be supporting one another! My now 7 year old is just as loved, happy, and healthy as he would have been had he been breastfed:)’.
