A mum has reached out to the public to ask them to send birthday cards to her terminally ill son, to make what could be his last birthday unforgettable.

Irish blogger Yavanna Keogh used the power of social media to tell her son’s story, and so far she’s received an amazing 222 birthday cards from people all around the world wishing little Oscar a happy fourth birthday.

Oscar was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare form of a brain tumour in January 2018. Due to the location of the tumour and the proximity of Oscar’s nerves to it, doctors have said he has a less than one per cent of survival.

So wanting to go all out for his upcoming birthday on June 24th, Yavanna reached out on social media to ask strangers to help her celebrate Oscar’s big day.

She said: ‘We have a BIG favour to ask. Oscar turns 4 on the 24th of June and this is a very important birthday. We have no guarantees that there will be another.

‘Our favour to ask is this - Wherever you are in the world IF you are able to (and only if), could you send him a birthday card to show him how special he is?’

The response has so far been ‘overwhelming’, with Yavanna sharing snaps of the hundreds of cards Oscar has received.

Uploading a snap to Instagram, she said: ‘We ended up sitting down and opening an incredible 222 birthday cards for Oscar from all over the country and abroad. Think of how amazing the house is going to look decked out in cards by the time his birthday rolls around so please keep sending them!’

Yavanna has also arranged another special treat for Oscar after a successful Twitter campaign to get Pointless star Richard Osman to record him a special birthday video.

Posting on Twitter, the devoted mother wrote: ‘Oz is OBSESSED with @TVsPointless and calls himself Richard now. He turns 4 on June 24th and has a terminal brain tumour. It would mean the world if we could get a video happy birthday or an autograph?’

Not long after Yavanna revealed that Richard had seen her tweet and had been in touch to say he would be happy to send a video wishing Oscar a happy birthday on his special day.

The family have set up a temporary P.O. Box so people can send a card to Oscar. You can send cards to Yavanna Evans, Suite 218, 2 James Joyce Street, Dublin 1.
