Finding out your child has been suspended from school is a nightmare that many parents dread, but one mum has been praised online for her proactive response to her son’s suspension.
Taking to Facebook, mother Demetris Payne, who lives in America, explained that her son had been suspended from his school for three days.
Instead of letting her child have three ‘days off’, she decided to put her son to work helping others in order to teach him a lesson in discipline.
‘He will do your lawn service, he will rake your yard, mow if supplied a mower, pick up trash, or wash your car for free. Maximum 3 hours… And he will do it all for free’, Demetris wrote.
Underneath a picture of her son, she wrote: ‘He’s booked up for this weekend… I got so many requests from buy, sell, and trade that I have to make a schedule.’
Fellow parents were quick to congratulate the mum for her ingenious idea and positive reaction to her son’s school suspension.
‘Brilliant’, commented one Facebook user. ‘It’s about time parents disciplined their children instead of letting them get away with everything.’
Another Facebook user, who works at a school, also praised the mum for supporting the school’s disciplinary system.
‘Amazing’, the school worker wrote on Facebook. ‘I work at a secondary school and the amount of parents that let their child have a ‘day off’ when they are suspended is shocking!’
‘You’re not supporting the school and ultimately your child if you don’t remove privileges at home and help to modify their behaviour and attitude!’
After the overwhelming reaction the mum received online to her original post, she posted an updated on her son four days later.
