It’s Mother’s Day this Sunday, but there’s one thing many mums will still have to do for their families.
Mother’s Day should be a day when mums everywhere can put their feet up and be spoiled all day – whether it’s receiving a home-made card, a cup of tea in bed, an extra long hug or baking one of our Mother’s Day recipes.
But the reality is a lot different, as a survey conducted by Morrisons showed that 37 per cent of mums will be at the supermarket to complete their weekly shop on Mothering Sunday.
Around 20 per cent admitted that the niceties of the day are usually over by midday and the pattern of a normal day takes hold.
However, to make the fact that well over a quarter of mums still do the shopping on this day a little better, one supermarket is offering mums a very special service.
In an effort to make Mother’s Day celebrations continue into the weekly shop, Morrisons are opening dedicated ‘mum lanes’.
One or two checkouts in every of Morrisons’ 491 stores will be reserved for mums. They will be assisted by specially selected staff, which will try to make the process as enjoyable and special, as feasibly possible.
The supermarket will also be handing out 30,000 pink Gerbera flowers to mums who come in to shop to help brighten their day.
Speaking about the campaign, Anna Lane from Morrisons said: ‘The reality of Mother’s Day is that some mums end up doing lots of chores!’

She continued: ‘So, for mums who shop with us on this special day we want to serve them better by creating a “Mum’s Lane” checkout.’
