In a very modern move the Swedish Royal couple took to their Instagram to announce the birth of their new baby boy.
Sweden’s Royal Court confirmed the baby prince was delivered this morning.
The trio posted this picture, with Prince Alexander, on Thursday captioned with: ‘It’s a boy! Princess Sofia has given birth to a Little Prince today at 11:24 am.’
The congratulations – both Swedish and English – rolled in, ‘Congratulations and all the wishes for you and your lovely family.’ Said one well wisher.
While another showed their excitement: ‘Amazing!!! Loved it… A baby boy… So so cute 👑👏🎉😍’. One even suggested a name for the new royal tot: ‘Magnus would be a fine name.’
The royal family are keeping mum on the baby name for now.
Proud dad Carl Philip, addressed reporters after the birth on Thursday, saying, ‘We are really happy. It’s a very cute boy.’
The couple who are already parents to toddler Prince Alexander, posted this picture as sentimental reminder of when they welcomed their firstborn.
The caption read: ‘Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia with their son Prince Alexander.
Soon there will be a new baby who will snuggle up in their arms!’
Sweden’s Royal Court said: ‘The Office of The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce that HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy child at 11.24am on August 31st at Danderyd Hospital.’Both mother and child are doing well.’
Carl Philip, 37, is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden. His elder sister princess Victoria is first in line to the throne.
He married reality TV star Sofia Hellqvist in a spectacular wedding attended by a number of European royals including the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.
