Portia Oduba opens up about struggling with her new baby while Ore is on the Strictly tour

Portia Oduba has had a tough few weeks as a new mum as she’s been looking after baby Roman alone while husband Ore Oduba participates in the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

The TV researcher, who welcomed their first child in early January, has been very open about trying to cope while being a temporary solo parent in a series of emotional Instagram posts.

Ore has been on the road with Strictly since January 19, and the relief of finally having him home, even for just a couple of days, proved to be too much for Portia who revealed she ‘burst into tears’ at the sight of him.

Sharing a sweet snap on Instagram of the couple enjoying a day at the park, Portia said: ‘It was so good to have the hubby home yesterday… he walked through the door on Sunday night and I burst into tears. Those weeks felt like forever and seeing him hold a much bigger Roman just melted my heart…

It was so good to have the hubby home yesterday… he walked through the door on Sunday night and I burst into tears. Those weeks felt like forever and seeing him hold a much bigger Roman just melted my heart…❤ That night watching Ore get to know him was a learning curve for me too and it was important for me to let Ore do it (with a little help of course!) I had learnt what Roman likes and doesn't like, what his little signs mean, how to hold him when he's tired or when to put the white noise app on!! etc…I had only learnt these things through trial and error but I had to step back and let Ore do the same! He took it totally in his stride…😊 Yesterday, we had a massive lie in and didn't get up till lunchtime and eventually after struggling with a sling for the first time (should of practiced more!)🙈 and taking the pram as a back up we went for a walk in the park.. this gave me and Ore time to catch up. It was the first time we had properly talked since he came home!!! Having hubby home also meant we shared the night shifts and last night I was very glad of that! 😴 After a lovely day (and no naps for me! Whoops I was too excited) Roman decided not to settle till 3am…! We both took it in turns to settle him (with Ore getting me up for boobie when required, that was a new one for me as normally I would just be awake!…) we were trying everything.. then in the early hours of the morning I heard Ore let out a huge squeal… Roman had shot out a HUGE poo during a nappy change this was our first big poo explosion! (have a baby they said, I would be fun they said!🤣) We panicked, rushed around grabbing water, extra nappies, cotton wool..whilst Roman just sat there kicking around in it…( we were not prepared, error!) I was just thankful I wasn't alone for this one… !💩 Today, hubby has gone back on tour and tonight we go solo again… In preparation I had a big nap today just in case we are in for a long night but fingers and toes crossed for a few hours tonight.. 💙 #babydiary #babyadventures #firsttimemum #newmum #learningtogether #dadcamehome #itsallaboutparkwalks

Just before Ore’s arrival on Sunday, Portia shared another emotional post in which she admitted she was ‘exhausted’ looking after their son alone.

The last few days have been quite tiring ones… Roman I think is going through a bit of a growth spurt and has been wanting to feed lots especially in the night which has been really exhausting when you are doing the night shift on your own… (as you can see from my tired eyes!) Yesterday we had a PJ day and didn't get dressed.. and today I didn't get up till lunchtime until my sister came over and looked after him so I could have a shower and wash my hair…👱🏻‍♀️ Not only have the sleeping hours recently been few and far between Roman has been taking longer to get to sleep. He gets tired and grizzly easier, and won't go straight to sleep which is what I have been used to with a newborn, so thank you everyone for the white noise app which I downloaded and it seems to be helping him get off to sleep when he is like this… 😴 But anyway, tomorrow is a new day and one I have been looking forward to for a few weeks now.. @oreodubaofficial is coming home 🙌🏻 which we BOTH can't wait for.. 💙 It's been a long couple of sleepless days/nights… p.s loving my new mum accessory.. a muslin! 💁🏼 #newborn #babydiary #newmum #babyjourney #daddyscominghome
