Prince William and Kate will do the school run with Prince George on his first day

Prince George will be accompanied by his mum and dad, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on his first day of primary school, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Little George’s big day is approaching fast, as the four-year-old is set to start school next week.

In a statement reported by PEOPLE magazine, Kensington Palace confirmed the royal’s first day at Thomas’s Battersea school will be on Thursday September 7th, adding that he will have his mum and dad by his side.

‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, accompanying Prince George, will be met on arrival at the school by the Head of Lower School, Helen Haslem, who will then escort Their Royal Highnesses to Prince George’s reception classroom,’ the statement read.

Official pictures of Prince George’s first day at nursery were released in 2016

Kate had previously alluded to the fact that her and William were planning to be involved in the school run, when she told fellow parents of children who will be attending Thomas’ that she would ‘see them at the school gates’.

An insider also told the Daily Mail at the time: ‘They are very hands on parents and although they acknowledge that it might cause a bit of a buzz to start with, they are hopeful it will soon settle down.

‘It’s very important to both of them that George enjoys as normal a childhood as possible, particularly as he settles into a new school, and for them this includes dropping him off at the school gates.’

And it looks like dad William is set for a busy day, as it’s also been announced by Kensington Palace that he will be hosting a reception for the Under-20 England football team at Kensington Palace on the same day his little one starts school.

The events are part of a string of royal engagements William and Kate will be hosting and attending in September, as the two start to dedicate the majority of their time to their royal duties, in order to support the Queen.
