How to make easy Easter suncatchers

For a unique Easter craft try these suncatchers to make the most of a sunny Spring afternoon.

These reflective, colorful ornaments will catch the eye of any little one and are made from crafting favourite - pony beads. You can make a variety of Easter-themed shapes as long as you have a metal biscuit cutter in your desired outline.

As this craft will require some heat, assist the children in placing the suncatchers in the oven to create these dazzling decorations. It’s the perfect activity for kids aged seven to nine, as they will have the patience to sort the small beads and create more intricate patterns.

You can also opt for a simpler version of this craft for younger ones; simply give them colouring sheet patterns to decorate and paste two of them back-to-back to make an ornament. Hang the creations near a window to get the optimal effect, or use them as charming table centerpieces.

You will need

• Egg shaped metal biscuit cutters
• Foil lined baking sheet
• Pony beads
• Small glass beads
• Fishing wire

Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees celcius. Place the egg-shaped metal biscuit cutters on a foil lined baking sheet. Arrange the pony beads in a single layer inside the cutters. Place a small glass bead near the top of each to create a hanging-loop-hole.

Step 2

Carefully place the tray in the oven, trying to to disturb the pattern you've just made. Allow the beads to melt and fuse together for 25-30 minutes.

Step 3

Remove from the oven and leave to cool fully, until hard. Pop the eggs out of the biscuit cutters and thread some fishing wire through the hole in the glass beads. Hang on a branch on your table for a fun alternative to a traditional Easter tree.
