Eat to lower your cholesterol

Eat to lower your cholesterol
Average rating: 4 out of 5 star rating

High cholesterol is a major cause of heart disease. You can keep your cholesterol levels down by avoiding foods which increase the levels. There are also foods which help the body to get rid of cholesterol. Here's some tips on what foods to look out for.

Avoid sausages, salamis, meat products, poultry skin, crackling and the fat round lamb chops.
Choose low-fat dairy products and watch out for hidden fats in cakes, pastries, ice creams, etc.
Eat more soluble fibre - the sort that comes from beans, oats, vegetables and other wholegrain cereals. This will specifically help reduce the levels of the bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the good cholesterol (HDL).
Taking a garlic supplement has recently been proved to help reduce cholesterol too.
