Iceland is selling a dupe of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake

With the royal wedding fast approaching, budget supermarket Iceland is launching a limited edition celebration cake inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding cake.

The handmade elderflower and lemon cake will be available from the 14th May 2018 in most Iceland stores and will cost only £8, which works out at only 66p per slice – much cheaper than the royal wedding cake Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be indulging in along with their guests, made by Claire Ptak of Violet Bakery.

Iceland’s two tiered, three layered, light lemon sponge is filled with elderflower buttercream, Sicilian lemon curd and delicately finished with shimmered chocolate peals – which is very similar to the spring-inspired creation the royal couple have requested for their own wedding dessert.

Neil Nugent, Head Chef at Iceland, said: ‘We want our customers to enjoy the royal wedding celebrations in style and what better way to do that than raising a glass of champagne to the newlyweds and having a slice of their actual wedding cake – well, kind of.’

‘The cake features everything the royal couple has asked for including a shimmery finish with chocolate pearls, light sponge and fragrant buttercream. I’d also recommend adding some wild flowers decorations to keep up the royal theme.’

Iceland’s celebration wedding cake will only be available for one week in Iceland stores – so chances to buy the royal-inspired dessert will be limited.

The royal couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, will tie the knot on Saturday 19th May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. It is set to be a small intimate ceremony with family and friends.
