Cataracts
goodtoknow says: Cataracts are extremely common in people over 65 and are easily treated. Cataracts happen when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy. They are not caused by a 'skin' forming over the eye. The main symptoms are blurred sight which glasses can't rectify and 'spots' in your vision. Your doctor or optician will be able to see cataracts immediately when they examine your eyes. A simple operation to remove the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial plastic lens takes around thirty minutes and is usually very successful.

A cataract is when the lens of an eye becomes cloudy and affects vision. Cataracts most commonly occur in older people and develop gradually. Cataracts can usually be treated with a routine 'day case' operation where the cloudy lens is removed and is replaced with an artificial plastic lens. However, in developing countries where treatment is not available, cataracts are a major cause of blindness.
