goodtoknow says: A hysterectomy is an operation that removes your womb (uterus). Today, hysterectomies are only carried out as a last resort. The reasons you may be offered a hysterectomy are varied ranging from heavy, painful periods, for which nothing else has worked, to cancer of the womb. Before agreeing, check with your doctor that every other option has been explored and that your condition is severe enough to warrant such radical surgery. Recovery from hysterectomy usually takes 6-8 weeks and the operation should not stop you having a good sex life.
For a full medical explanation of symptoms and course of treatments for hysterectomies from patient.co.uk, read on.
Hysterectomy may be advised for a number of reasons. This leaflet gives a brief overview. You should discuss with your doctor any concerns before you have a hysterectomy.

I had a hyserectomy in july 2006 at the depressing age of only 37,with no children this was a very disressing time for myself, husband and my family. The procedure was not a total, they left me with my ovaries but yet i still experience pain to the left of my pelvis, doctors say that i had cysts on my ovaries before my operation, they left me with my ovaries because of my age at the time.
