Melanoma
goodtoknow says: Melanoma is a type of skin cancer. Around 6 in 10 cases are caused by sun damage although it can also be genetic. It starts as a small dark patch on your skin that forms on a mole or on a normal part of your skin. If you have moles watch out for any changes in size, shape or colour. Melanoma can often be removed, and the cancer cured, with a very simple operation. But it's far better to avoid it by staying out of the sun and using a suncream with a factor of 15 or more.
For a full medical explanation of the causes, symptoms and treatments of melanoma from patient.co.uk, read on.
Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. It affects young adults as well as older people. If diagnosed at an early stage, before it has spread, treatment is likely to be curative. The outlook is not so good if it has already spread before being treated. See your doctor if you develop an abnormal patch of skin and are unsure what it is.

Hi ,with technology as advanced as it is and the ploblems with skin cancer and global warming I would have thought it would be possible to incorperate a U.V.A. meter within a mobile phone so that U.V.A. levels can be checked at any time after all just about everyone that wishes to sunbath would own a mobile phone, this would answer the question is it safe or is'nt it. Just a thought it may not be possible. Best regards David Bodsworth.
