Mumps
goodtoknow says: If you have mumps you'll have a hamster-like swollen face and a high temperature. Mumps is a viral infection of the main salivary glands. It mainly affects children and teenagers although adults can get it too. It can make chewing and swallowing painful and lead to mild stomach ache. Mumps is now relatively rare in the UK thanks to immunisation and complete recovery is quick. The best treatment is bed rest, plenty of fluids and paracetamol to lower your temperature. Mumps can be nastier for men though as around 1 in 4 develop painful, swollen testicles. In rare cases it can cause infertility.
