Ovarian cysts
goodtoknow says: Most ovarian cysts are benign. They're fluid filled sacs you can get in your ovaries and can be as small as a pea or as big as an orange. You shouldn't have much trouble if yours are smallish, they often go away on their own, but if they're large you may get pain or heavier periods. An ultrasound scan will confirm how big they are and if they're causing you pain they can be removed surgically. In extreme cases your ovary may need to be removed too.
For a full medical explanation of the causes, symptoms and treatments of ovarian cysts from patient.co.uk, read on.
An ovarian cyst is a fluid filled sac which develops in an ovary. Most ovarian cysts are benign (non-cancerous) and cause no symptoms. Some cause problems such as pain and irregular bleeding. No treatment may be needed for certain types of ovarian cysts which tend to go away on their own. For other types an operation may be performed to remove the cyst.

Hello-i have recently been diafnosed with PCOS and i am 18. the thought of never being able to have a family is terrifying, but i have come across something on the web that looks promising (if not a little too good to be true) th site is called naturalovariancystcure.com and it is a program said to have signifcant effect on PCOS. i figure i have nothing to lose so i'm gonna try it out-maybe you guys should have a look? if your not convinced i will write back to tell you how well (or not) i have got on with it. please dont be upset, remember this is an extremely common condition (a huge amount of people go through life without even realising they have it) and it certainly does not mean you are definately infertile. good luck everyone emma xx

I am a 27 year old, so is extremely over weight, i recently hurt my back and was sent for an MRI and a Ultrasound, where they first diagnoised the cysts. I have been told nothing about how many or how big and am being passed around by my doctors. I am really I wont survive an operation or to be able to have children. I am also more concerned as i was in a previous relationship with extreme violence towards myself which was all aimed at my stomach, could this have effected my ovaries? Am i a prime candidate for ovarian cancer and will i still be able to have children in the future. PLease email me as no one is giving me any information and am scared that my one dream of a family is fleeting fast........

hi sarah i have had quite a few appointments and scans with the doctor and hospital to discuss what cysts are and how they are treated and apparently most of them go away on their own and if they dont its simple surgery to remove them, sometimes they have to remove part of the ovary but not all of it, i doubt very much they will have to remove buth of your ovaries. Going in on the 20th of Feb to have mine removed not scared at all i cant wait....... My partner and i are have been trying for a baby for the past six months but as its made my periods very irregular it made my chances less but i dont think it affects one hundred percent.....im still waiting for advise on that part! One bit of advise.....try not to read too much on the internet as it can make everything seem ten times worse than it actually is, thats what doctors are there for you should never feel stupid asking for 'too much advise!!' Hope all goes well jodi x

Dear Sarah Please don't be worried.I was diagnosed with an ovarIan cyst 18 months ago and I had it removed 6 months later. Usually when a cyst is first seen on the ovary it is monitored every 6 months. if it gets to about 5 cm.s - as mine did - it has to be removed. I am 46 years old and very overweight, yet i sailed through the surgery, so should you have to have it removed you have nothing to worry about. It won't affect your chances of having more children - that can be a problem caused by Polycystic Ovaries - which is something completely different and even then it is not always the case as my 19 year old daughter had a little boy in September and found out last week that she has Polycystic Ovaries. So please don't be scared sweetheart. i was a bit at first but everything was fine. Sue Lee xx

Dear Sarah, I am a woman of 45 years of age and was diagnosed with ovarian cysts at the age of 34 . But like yourself was told there were very small and would probably go on their own with time. i have lived with these cysts all this time with very little problems up till now . I am now 45 years of age and am now going to have them surgically removed after having them all these years. But if your worrying about them why not have a word with your health visitor or nurse at the baby clinic next time you take your baby to be weighed. lots of women and girls suffer from ovarian cysts so please don,t think the worst and hope you find the coursage to speak to your health visitor or g.p if your really worried good luck Sarah best wishes Susan Wilson.xx

Hi there, im 38, last year i was fitted with the marine coil, and from them, i was in severe pain and constant bleeding, i knew something was wrong as i had that type of coil before and has no problem at all, went to doctors, she was worried about how much pain i was in that she removed the coil two days later, she sent me up for scan, was told i had cyst, apart from the pain and bleeding, my one question is, from this all started the weight ive put on it terrible, can this be anything to do with cyst? from last november ive put on about a stone and a half, and my diet has not changed any!!!
