Heavy periods (menorrhagia)

Heavy periods (menorrhagia)
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

goodtoknow says: If your periods are heavy, you're not alone. About one in three women have them. If you're having to change tampons and pads often, or wear both because of flooding, then your periods are probably heavier than most. Often women have heavy periods for no apparent reason, they're just unlucky. But some conditions, such as fibroids or endometriosis can cause heavy periods. The good news is that treatment to reduce bleeding is very effective from medication such as tranexamic acid tablets and the contraceptive pill to surgery to remove the lining of your womb.

For a full medical explanation of the causes, symptoms and treatments of heavy periods from patient.co.uk, read on.

Heavy periods are common. In most cases no cause can be found. In some cases a cause is found such as endometriosis, fibroids, and other conditions (listed below). In many cases treatment is effective by using medication to reduce bleeding, or by surgery.
