Colic

Colic: Symtpoms, treatment and what to look for
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

goodtoknow says: If your newborn baby has colic, we really sympathise. Colic can drive even the calmest parent to distraction. The main symptom is a distinctive insistent cry which can last for hours. Your baby may also pull her knees up and refuse to feed. Nobody knows for sure what causes colic. Theories include an immature digestive system and a sensitivity to cows milk. Medicines and remedies can't cure colic but may still be worth trying. Symptoms usually ease within four months.

For a full medical explanation of the causes, symptoms and treatments of colic from patient.co.uk, read on.

Colic is common and distressing. However, it usually goes by the age of 3-4 months. The cause is not known. There are no medicines that will stop colic. Ways, which may help to ease colic in some cases, and some tips on how to cope, are given below.

Sarah Evans, 9 months

My 11 week old son Carwyn had very bad colic for a few weeks and I bought a Dr Browns Anti Colic bottle and it worked wonders, he still suffers a little but not as bad as it was. Infacol is good but it takes about two weeks to really start to work, also hav a bottle of gripe water handy and you can use it from 1 month onwards.

I am one of the few people who do know what causes colic in babies and I have a safe, natural remedy for it which has never failed. I've been curing babies who had colic for 10 years now. I have great sympathy for all colicky babies and their parents, having been through the agony of having a colicky baby myself, before I KNEW the cause and so I'm working on a website which includes this subject. It should be ready soon, when I've sorted out the technical side of websites and autoresponders (!) and then lots of babies will be cured quickly, not just the ones in my immediate circle. Anne Agar
