Easing the pain of abscesses
A warm compress works really well to reduce pain, inflammation and swelling if you've got an abscess. I had one under my arm and even though I eventually needed antibiotics to get rid of it, the compress certainly helped.

My poor husband had a large, really sore abscess under his armpit. The doctor lanced and drained it but he was still in lots of pain. The doctor advised us to try applying heat to it so we tracked down a fleece-covered heating pad on the internet. It has three heat settings and my husband says it's the best cure he's found.
