Coping with coeliac disease

Coping with coeliac disease
Average rating: 4 out of 5 star rating

I've suffered from gluten-intolerance for most of my life and have now been diagnosed with coeliac disease. I've been on a gluten-free diet, but I've been told that this can affect the amount of calcium in my bones, which could cause me problems later on. I take calcium supplements to prevent osteoporosis and wanted to let other coeliac sufferers in on this tip too.
Jackie Middleton, 44, Dudley, West Midlands

If you have coeliac disease and you're on a gluten-free diet, check that your mouthwash doesn't contain additives, stabilisers or preservatives that contain gluten. It could be affecting you without you realising it.

My son invited a friend over for a dvd and pizza party. Easy and managable everyone likes pizza. On confirming with my sons friends mother he could come, she said you know peter is coeliac. I knew there was certain foods he couldn't have but didn't realise everything i'd planned to give them Peter couldn't eat. His mum said don't worry everything your having I'll make and bring with me. My first thought was to feel sorry for Peter but his mum said he doesn't know any different and knows what he can and can't have. I usually take all his food with us when we visit friends. I found your web site to try and understand a bit more about the disease and found it reaally useful.
