My six-year-old daughter often can't sleep so I give her Viridian's Californian Poppy Tincture (£7.30 for 50ml, from health stores). It's a safe, traditional American Indian remedy made from crushed poppy seeds, stems and flowers. You just put 15 drops in some fruit juice.

If insomnia's getting you down, try covering all your clocks. If I knew I was still awake at 2am I would get cross and be even less likely to be able to get to sleep. Now, because I don't know what time it is, I don't get cross and getting to sleep is easier.
