Dealing with PCOS

Dealing with polycystic ovary syndrome
Average rating: 4 out of 5 star rating

I really hate the fact that POS makes my body hair grow more and I can't afford regular trips to a beauty salon. Instead I use 'Hair Away' by Herbal Skin Doctor. You get a depilatory cream and a spray. Between them, they remove hair and stop it from growing back so quickly. They cost £19.95 from www.mybeautysecrets.co.uk but that's still a lot cheaper than professional waxing.

A friend recommended acupuncture to help sort out my polycystic ovary syndrome and, after some initial skepticism, I tried it. I've found that it is amazingly helpful at regulating my periods.

bp, 9 months

i've had polycystic ovaries for 9 years. I can feel then everyday and they are extremely painful every couple of weeks. The pain also exteds into my leg and it feels to weak to walk on, my lower back also becomes very sore too. I become very quiet and a bit sad because i know that no one else can really understand how it feels. The things that help to reliee the pain - (a combination will relieve the pain for a few hours) are- walking - even though it hurts at first, after about 10 mins i cant feel the pain - until i stop walking. 2nd- 'Feminax' or basically a combinatin of paracetamol, codine and caffine- they've taken the caffine out so a can of coke or coffee will do. staying warm and cosy and having a high carb meal such as pasta but nothing as grasy as chips is often good. i hope this is of some help to you. thank you

hi there , I am in a similar situation i was doing drugs for about 8 years at 19(before i was diagnosed with PCOS) i went to my doctor for help with amphetamine withdrawal and he put me on prozac. When i was 21 i got diagnosed with PCOS and tried to get fertility treatment. I attended a couple of hospital appointments and they did drag my drug use issues into it and try to patronise me and make me feel like i was unfit to be a mother. They also said if i had a baby with treatment they have a duty to inform social services. My then partner then left me anyway so i never did get any further with that. The pain of that then drove me back to doing drugs for another 2 years but i am now clean and have no desire to use drugs ever again -I JUST WANT MY CHANCE TO BE A MOTHER!!!My current partner and i have recently started looking into fertility treatment and i am currently having blood tests to confirm i am not ovulating. i have to have 3 of these, each on day 21 of my cycle. I have only had 1 so far which showed i did not ovulate that month and i have the second 1 on 15th july.?Hopefully after iv had the 3 blood tests i will get hospitaL referal and take it from there.

Hi, I have suffered with pcos for nearly 8 years. I have had treatment i had ovarian drilling to help the release of my eggs to help me get pregnant and to regulate my periods. It helped with my periods but it didnt with my fertility. I ended up having a drug (cant remember what it was called) to help me get pregnant which it did and i now have a 4 year old. My biggest problem is my weight and the excessive hair growth and feeling so down all the time. I have tried diets and ecercise but i seem to put more weight not off. All the help i get from my doctor is "if you loose the weight it will lessen the symptoms" but that doesnt really help me. If anyone has any suggestions that have worked for them please e mail me. We really want to try for a baby but i am now very over weight and the risks are to great for pcos sufferers with a healthy pregnancy. Thank you.

i was addicted to drugs for ten years and have been clean for the last three. i was suffering hair growth and missing periods which were put down to drugs at first. i was then set for a scan and was found to have pcos. i want to try for a family but am to scared to ask for help given my past. lately my periods have started to return monthly and i am un agony. i was informed by a friend that although i was bleeding each month it did not mean i was ovulating. is ti true? can any one help me understand the info on fertility and how i can improve my chances of getting pregnant. i am a little overwieght around two stone. my partner has two children of his own so i know there is no problem there. i have no one to discuss my feelings with. have caused this myself with my past drug use. please feel free to e mail me be it with advise or caution thank you.
