Whenever I get a flare-up of psoriasis I use Salcure Intensive Spray. It's really good at reducing the redness and flakiness. You can get it from www.skinlight.co.uk and is £19.99.

I've suffered from psoriasis for ages, but then I read that adding vinegar to the water when you have a bath kills the bacteria that makes psoriasis worse. I've been trying it for a couple of weeks now, and I've already seen an improvement.

melanotan - afamelanotide, 8 months

"lisa" makes a comment about a friend using melanotan II as a treatment option for psoriasis. For anyone considering such a thing FIRST CONSULT WITH A DOCTOR about such an idea. Folks' doctors should be kept in the loop at all times about patients' own attempts at self-medication especially when the usage of unlicensed drugs are concerned. Know that melanotan II (or melanotan I for that matter) has never been trialed as a medication to help psoriasis sufferers so all there is to go on relative to efficacy and safety for such a usage is anecdotal reports. That's not a very strong foundation to go on. There may be something to the thought of treating psoriasis with a melanotan peptide though. The Australian company Clinuvel has recently gotten approval to conduct testing of melanotan-1 (generic name "afamelanotide") in PDT patients as well as sufferers of EPP. There's more information about this from Wired Science here: Suntan Drug Greenlighted for Trials Cheers, Melanotan.org - afamelanotide

For Linda - I've had scalp psoriasis for a couple of years now (get it a bit on my arms too sometimes) and the doc has just given me a shampoo called etrivex - it is much easier to use (doesn't take long only about 15 mins) than others he has given me (like polytar and capasal shampoos) and it seems to be working well too. worth a try - you can just ask your doc for it I think.

To all psoriasis sufferers out there, have you ever heard of a condition called candida, well neither had i up untill a couple of months ago, it is not something you hear a doctor talk about or see it advertised anywhere Candida is a yeast infection in our bodies which can cause many illnesses that doctors just prescribe antibiotics again and again, when infact, antibiotics can make the yeast infection spread and make your conditions worse or create more I have researched this condition in some dept and hand on my heart, most of the symptoms candida gives a person i have had or still suffer, psoriasis and depression being my main problems Since being tested i have now found out that I am intollerant to yeast, and cocobeans which is just about in every food source you can think of , well yeast anyway, honest, try shopping and looking at the labels and see if you can find much that does not have yeast in or yeast extract or some kind or raising agent, its pants!!! Good news is, I have cut out yeast, baking agents and cocobeans ( all chocolate) in my diet and mood swings, depression and mostly my psoriasis have improved in just a few weeks There are some good books on the market ( i have them all i think) that provide information on the condition and diets to help you as it is all very scary at first, i lost a lot of weight too having tried every diet available to know avail, but not knowing that candida was causeing me to put on weight, bloating, poor diet craving for the wrong foods hope this will help and not just with your skin, i feel 10 years younger, so full of energy sharon

Hi Gareth I have just read your comment on trying ultra violet light (uvb) and just wanted to say be careful if you do opt for this treatment The treatment is given via your doctors (dermatologist) consent and it is all very exciting when you have tried everything which you say you have, but i ended up in hospital for 7 weeks on a very stricked treatment routine due to the burns i received from the machine, giving me twice as much psriasis before i started treatment, not trying to scare you just make you aware that, it is affective in a lot of cases, but like me, some are intollerant to the sunlight which i didn not find out until after I have had psoriasis for over 20 years now and like you have tried and tested everything going but nothing worked if anything made it worse, however, i have been taking Echinacea & Goldenseal tablets fwhich has helped so much in fact i only have a mild case of psoriasis on my legs now where for years i have had it head to toe, Echinacea & Goldenseal helps repair the immune system or something like that, sorry im not a doctor, but it really has made me feel better, and inproved my skin very quickly, the red patches have gone so it now just looked like dry skin so not so noticable hope you try it it is herbal so can not harm you like steroid creams sharon, devon
