After my hysterectomy, I found wearing normal underwear really uncomfortable. Then my sister told me about Light Support Knickers. They support your tummy but are made of soft material too. They were a godsend. I got mine for £10.95 from The Hysterectomy Association, www.hysterectomy-association.org.uk.

After my hysterectomy I retained loads of fluid all over my body, but mainly my ankles and I was really uncomfortable. Doctors then recommended that I drink loads of tomato or V8 juice as it acts as a natural diuretic. Within a couple of days I was back to my normal size.

14 days after my operation and I feel better, until I try and do something simple then I realise I am human and need to take it easy. Had a bladder and bowel repair as well the hysterectomy so need to take it easy, but having always worked it's hard to let go. Have no idea eally on what to do or when, everyone says do nothing!!! They left a swab in and had to take me back to theatre and open me up to take it out but the hospital was great and i was well looked after. don't quite know how i feel at the moment though but suppose that's normal?

Hi everybody I had a hysterectomy 5 months ago. I am also on hormone replacement at the age of 35. Op went fine and doing well. My only problem is that I feel tired and feels like there is something missing. The doctors say its the hormones????? Its not a nice feeling that for sure.

I am getting ready to go in for a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks.I have a fibroid/ heavy bleading and it is enterfearing with the chron's that I was diicnosed with in 2004. I am almost 40. So I am NOT wanting any more childeren. I am married to an amazing husband. I have had problems with deprestion in the past so this is one of my big conserns. I understand some times it is mind over matter. But some times expestaly when dealing with hormones. It can be quite chalenging. Is this somthing that I should be concerned about? Thank you very musch and God bless you all.....Lisa

I had a tah on april 10th 2008 ten days ago,the op went well i was up out of my bed and in the shower the next day kinda knew what to expect pain wise as ive had 2 c sections but i can honestly say the pain was less this time,im sore but stopped taking painkillers on the monday they were making me feel really sick and to be honest on a scale of 1-3 the pain was a 1 and i wouldnt say pain really just being uncumfortable,i have a very tidy wound but do have numbness above and upto my tummy button also slight swelling above the wound which im sure will go soon, all in all so far im very happy with the tah and wouldnt look back id say the only problem im having is my bowels im going about 4-6 times a day mind you ive lost 8 lbs since having it done which is good.Id say everyone is different no two hysterectamys are the same but dont be put off by some of the horrer stories on the net you read if you really need the procedure its well worth having.

Hi, I am 38 and had a hysterectomy in Nov last year due to a large fibroid. I found that being as informed as possible before the op helped me a great deal. I had heard all sorts of scare stories before I went in but in my experience, other than still being quite tired, I recovered really quickly. That was physically. I still have 'weepy' moments and have found a few situations uncomfortable but I don't feel anywhere as bad as I thought I would. Don't expect too much of yourself, go at your own pace - allow loved ones to help and you'll be fine. Lots of Luck

Do ensure that you have those who love you unconditionally around you whilst you are recuperating, especially if you have a hysterectomy at a young age because nothing prepares you for the emotions that well up once reality hits home. Good luck.
