Dealing with tonsillitis
If you've got tonsillitis, mix half a lime, two teaspoons of honey and a little salt and sip slowly. It helps reduce inflammation and ease the pain when swallowing.

When our daughter got tonsillitis, our GP prescribed antibiotics but while we were waiting for them to kick in, she found Lemsip Sore Throat Anti-Bacterial Citrus Fruits Lozenges helped. £2.15 for 24 at www.expresschemist.co.uk.

My daughter gets tonsillitis about twice a year as she has other problems, we have found along with drinking lots of fluid taking Kuka tablets, which can be found at health food stores or online, they help reduce inflammation.

I currently have tonsillitis (It is so painful!!) and found that eating very cold icecream helped enormousley in easing the pain. The pain seemed to ease for a couple of hours or more and swallowing was much easier. The only problem is that it is high in calories but you will only need it for a few days until the antibiotics kick in. As my pain is quite severe I also take two 500mg paractamols (children should take far less than this, always read the instructions!) which also helped to ease the pain. For my temperature I have a cold flannel on my forehead and around my neck at night to help bring the temperature down and make sleeping more comfortable. Be very careful not to overdose and not to use many different tablets (which is easy to do when you are in pain). Stick to your antibiotics and paracetamol. Best wishes, Helen Diaz
