goodtoknow says: If your child has a fever it means their temperature has risen to above 38°C (100.4°F). A fever isn't an illness but a symptom of another problem, usually a viral or bacterial infection, which is very common in children. Keep your child cool, give them infant paracetamol or ibuprofen and lots of cool drinks. Do not sponge them down with cold water, as used to be advised. This is now believed to make them feel worse. See your GP if you aren't able to bring their temperature down and they seem to be getting worse.
For a full medical explanation of the causes, symptoms and treatments of fevers from patient.co.uk, read on.
If your child has a high temperature (fever) then: give them some paracetamol or ibuprofen, take off their clothes, and give them lots to drink. See a doctor if they do not improve.
