Dr Tom Smith on acid reflux
'A frenetic lifestyle, for example snatching meals on the hoof, means that there are plenty of hours during the day where the stomach secretes acid and pepsin (a protein-digesting enzyme) into its cavity, but has no food to digest. This can erode both the stomach wall and the oesophagus above it, leading to acid reflux.'
Dr Tom Smith, author and health journalist
