Why weight loss can help PCOS
'Reducing your weight is crucial. You can manage the symptoms and even reverse PCOS by changing your diet, to eat less carbohydrate and also smaller, more frequent meals. Try to eat a little protein with each meal, too. The good news about having slightly higher levels of testosterone, is that it means the body responds well to exercise and will thank you for your improved physique.'

Dear Doctor I have been trying to lose weight for 6 months using a combination of diet and cardiovascular exercise, but nothing is making a difference. i am becoming quite anxious as I have been unable to conceive naturally and am waiting IVF treatment, but at 39 years of age, time is ticking fast. I am taking 'metformin' since October 2006 to reduce the symptoms of PCOS - ie weight gain and excessive hair growth, but there is no difference as yet. Could it be I need to up the dose from 300mg to 500mg 3 x / day? Please could you advise me doctor. Kind Regards Helen
