Trevor Reid, National Osteoporosis Society, on osteoporosis
'If you know there is a family history of osteoporosis, it's probably worth getting checked out by your GP even if you've experienced no symptoms. They can arrange a bone density scan, a risk determination test that tells you how fragile your bones are. Once diagnosed, there are a number of measures you can take that can help slow down the progression of the illness.'
