Drink to ease your IBS

Jane Clarke, nutritionist and health writer, on IBS

'All IBS sufferers should drink 2.5 litres of water, sipped regularly throughout the day. Another remedy I find useful is aloe vera juice. This is the juice taken from the aloe cactus plant, and preliminary research suggests it's effective in relieving many IBS symptoms. Again, you can find it in good health food shops and supermarkets. I'd suggest 20ml, three times a day.'

I have had IBS for many years, server cramps, until I had a private blood test to see if i had a food intolerance, I discovered i had intolerance to dairy and wheat.I now feel much better eating the right foods. Only problem is eating out. You can get 'good bacteria' tablets from the health shop.Good luck all those suffering IBS.

I also have never had any stomach or toilet problems and now I get a lot of stomach cramps bloating and farting alot sometimes burping alot and have diarrohea almost every day. I suffer from anxiety and stress and worry a lot I have been told stress makes IBS worse not sure if this is true!? Also if any one can give me advise on my terrible smelling farts would be very gratefull I feel so embarrassed.

I have IBS and have had it over 20 years, I cannot take dairy products, as they tend to flare up more. The stomach cramps are strong when I have eaten, and then the diarrohea starts, I could be in the toilet for over 2-3 hours with a severe flare up. I have a sign I put on the door of the bathroom, that says, Do not disturb - out in couple of hours !! I do eat good, and keep diary, so that I can keep an eye on what I have eaten should I have a severe flare up. I want to get good bacteria back into me, but the proboitic drinks are too milky, and the multiprobiotics supplement tablets, have Iron in them, and I have Thallassemia and need to watch the iron I take in supplements. Is there another way to get probiotic without affecting my IBS. thanks
