'Cod liver oil certainly helps some arthiritis sufferers. Try a high strength capsule daily (1,000mg) for four months. It can be slow to produce results so it's worth persevering for the full four months but if you see no improvement by then stop taking the capsules.

Glucosamine hasn't been shown to help all joints but can produce a 20-25 per cent reduction in pain and disability in patients with knee arthiritis. The recommended does is 1,500mg daily for at least three months. You should initially try one treatment at a time to see what does what, but take them together if you find them helpful.'

Hi, I have osteo-arthritis in my neck and have suffered for about 7years now. I am 37yrs old and other symptoms are occurring. At the moment i feel a dull ache in my chest on the left which is where i suffer the arthritis most. Im not breathless but this dragging me down. I visited my GP about six weeks ago with this problem thinking i may have a chest infection, but he informed me that i was experiencing this because of the arthritis due to the weather, the other term he called my problem was Spondilosis, can you enlighten me please.

Hi Rita, I could almost be reading a comment I made myself!!! I'm in exactly the same position as you. Try to walk as much as I can but sometimes it's so sore. I usually park in the mothers and babies car park when I do my once a week shopping and had some cheeky women make comments to me about parking there. I DONT park there, if its the last space I'm more considerate than that, but it can be a damn pest this arthritis. I get so angry with myself, but hay ho you have to pick yourself up of the floor and get on with it, thats the comments I usually get! Good luck anyway and I'd be interested to know how you got on with fighting for your disabled badge. Elaine.

I have just come from the GP who suggests my problem (with my feet and hands) is arthritis. some of the symptoms fit, others don't. also he recommended glucosamine - which the doctor writing the article says doesn't help all joints. I want to avoid "quack rememdies" but am left confused as the advice is conlicting.
