Atrophic Vaginitis (vaginal dryness)

Atrophic vaginitis
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

good to know says: Atrophic Vaginitis (vaginal dryness) is unpleasant but very common. Around 1 in 2 women will have some symptoms of it after the menopause but there are lots of effective ways to treat it. Atrophic vaginitis happens because the ovaries make less oestrogen after the menopause. This causes dryness, itching and discomfort. It can also make sex painful and leave you more prone to infection and discharge. Your GP may prescribe oestrogen creams or pessaries or you could try a lubricating gel or cream from the chemist. HRT is sometimes offered too.
