Jane Clarke, nutritionist and health writer, on IBS
'All IBS sufferers should drink 2.5 litres of water, sipped regularly throughout the day. Another remedy I find useful is aloe vera juice. This is the juice taken from the aloe cactus plant, and preliminary research suggests it's effective in relieving many IBS symptoms. Again, you can find it in good health food shops and supermarkets. I'd suggest 20ml, three times a day.'

Hi, I have had IBS for over 24 years, and it is the Diarrohea. The cramps I usually tend to get by with a hot water bottle on my stomach, I take Lapromide, when I have severe cramps, and diarrohea which does help a lot, I am lactose intolerant. Now I have found out I have problems with some foods that contain protein. I want to put weight on, (I know some will find this hard, as most things you see now, are wanting to loose weight). I also want to tone up my body, but not loose weight, it is difficult as the IBS kicks in all the time I eat loads. I am a member of the IBS network, which is good as they give you a pocket card that has I Cant Wait on it, and it allows you to show this so you could use toilet facilities, although it is difficult when you cant get to a toilet, and need to go to the disabled toilets, and you get so much stick because you dont have a walking stick or a wheelchair, I always say dont judge a book by its cover, but it doesnt go down well. I usually like to use the disabled toilets anyway, as with them having sinks in there, it makes it easier when I need to restick my breast prosthesis back on, when it comes undone... but yet again you get the same stick coming out of a disabled toilet without having a visible disablement. Back to IBS, I do wish companies could come up with non dairy Actimel or Good healthy drinks that are not dairy based. I have tried the usual soya, goats milk, rice milk etc, but that was when I was advised by a dietician, that I had a protein tolerant in some items. x
