Chilblains (pernio)

Chilblains (pernio)
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

goodtoknow says: If you've ever had small, itchy lumps on your feet, fingers, nose or ears in cold temperatures, then they may be chilblains. Sometimes called pernio, these common, red, painful swellings can last for a week or two and sometimes blister. They happen because of an abnormal reaction to the cold, often caused by circulation problems. Sudden changes in temperature can make your blood vessels contract and expand too quickly, eg, using a hot water bottle to warm cold feet. Keep warm in winter, particularly your hands and feet, if you're prone to them. Calamine lotion will help soothe them and a steroid cream can reduce the itch.

Rose, 7 months

chilblains can be awful to have. i have suffered from very bad circulation all my life so get chilblaines constantly even in the summer. i was on nifedipine (the highest dose) prescribed by my doctor, but as i was on it so many years it stopped having any affect. i now use a chilblaine cream and a steroid cream but still don't find that it is helping much. i have severe chilblaines on my hands and feet, does anyone know any other options i could try?
