'I acted quickly to treat my scald'
In Feb 2007, I was cooking when I accidentally split boiling hot oil down my left leg, scalding it really badly.
The pain was excruciating and I went straight into shock.
Luckily, I'm a nurse and know that the best thing to do is put any burn in cold water.
I took a paracetamol to try and ease the pain and got into a cold bath as soon as possible.
I stayed in the bath for a couple of hours. When I got out, my leg was really red and very painful. On a score of one to 10, it was definitely at a 10 so I went to A&E where a doctor told me to put a cold compress on it overnight.
The next morning I woke up to find my leg was covered in blisters, so I went back to hospital to get it looked at. The doctor checked to see if there was any infection and fortunately there wasn't.
I went back to have it checked a few times over the next couple of and by May 2007, the scald had healed.
It has left a scar which doesn't look very nice so I tend to wear trousers now to cover it up.
I'm just glad I acted quickly though, because I know it could have been so much worse.
