Atrial Fibrillation
goodtoknow says: Atrial fibrillation is when your heart beat is a lot faster or more irregular than normal. It occurs in 1 in 20 people over the age of 65 and is more common, the older you get. Symptoms include breathlessness, dizziness, chest pains and palpitations. The main complication with atrial fibrillation is the increased likelihood of having a stroke. Treatments include bringing the heart rate back to normal with beta-blockers, and anti-clotting drugs to prevent a stroke.
