Stay thin to cut cancer
A report out today from the World Cancer Research Fund has blamed putting on weight, drinking alcohol and eating lots of everyday foods for causing cancer.
21 experts involved in the research have warned against processed meats, such as bacon, ham and sausages, and suggested that we all drastically reduce the amount of red meat we eat.
According to their findings, even supposedly healthy fruit and vegetables only offer a 'limited' protection against cancer.
They recommend everyone should aim to be as thin as possible, without becoming underweight, claiming that body fat is the key factor in development of cancer.
But Britain's top cancer specialist Professor Karol Sikora warned that the advice was too tough and that 'no-one will do it.'
He added: 'Alcohol, red meat and bacon in moderation will do us no harm and to suggest they will is wrong.'
Meanwhile, other experts have pointed out that two thirds of cancer cases are not related to lifestyle and there is nothing people can do to stop the disease.
