Preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

Health expert Julia Shaw on dealing with DVT
Average rating: 3 out of 5 star rating

You're more at risk of a deep-vein thrombosis from sitting in your chair for too long rather than flying, so it's important to start moving more, especially if you sit at a desk at work.

  • Send 10 fewer emails every day. Get up and go and talk to your colleagues instead
  • Sit up straight when working to avoid constriction to your blood flow. Then move every 15 minutes to raise your heart rate and increase circulation, even if it's just a good stretch
  • DVT flight socks aren't just for flying. Wear compression socks at work too to help improve your circulation. Try Scholl Flight Socks, £13.99 from Boots.
