Protect your back - inactivity

Not getting enough exercise allows your muscles go slack, which means they are not able to support the back properly. This can be especially dangerous if you have to lift something heavy.

What to do
You don't have to go to the gym every day to get exercise. A brisk 15-minute walk to the shops should be enough to get your heart pumping and your muscles working. Make sure you're working hard though - if you don't feel a little out of breath then you need to speed up! And walking can help you lose up to 24lb too

If you want to do some extra exercise, you could also try some sit-ups which will tone up your stomach and help support your lower back.

Reverse sit-ups will also work your back.

  • Lie in your front with your hands by your temples.
  • Gently lift your head and upper body off the ground a few inches to the count of four.
  • Hold for two seconds and gently lower yourself down.
  • Repeat 10 times.

Have a look at some more easy exercise tips to tone up your body.
