Protect your back - too much baggage

Protect your back - too much baggage

A recent study showed that the average weight of a woman's handbag was 2.37kg, that's the same as five bags of sugar! If you, like most women, carry your handbag on the same shoulder all the time you're putting more pressure on that side of your body, which can force your spine into the wrong position.

What to do
Shoulder bags may be much more fashionable, but a rucksack is the best bag for your back as the weight is spread out evenly across both sides of your back. Another thing to look out for is thick straps - bags with thin straps put more pressure on a smaller area and also break more easily.

We're not suggesting you ditch all your designer bags though, but if you think your handbag is becoming too heavy then have a clear out and take out anything you haven't used in a month. Be ruthless. Do you really need all that make-up? And that magazine? If you've read it then bin it. Even all those receipts soon add up.
