Patrick Swayze dies of pancreatic cancer
Patrick Swayze has lost his battle to an aggressive form of cancer.
The 57-year-old had lived with pancreatic cancer for the past 20 months but Patrick Swayze died at his home with friends and family on 14 September.
'Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side
after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,' his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement released Monday evening.
Last year Patrick, star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost, had been flying himself to the Stanford University Medical Centre.
Dr George Fisher, who was treating the film star said at the time: 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.'
Swayze was initially told he had just 5 weeks to live but the actor refused to give up his fight, battling on for another year.
Cancer of the pancreas is quite a common condition and usually occurs in people over 60. If diagnosed early enough, medical advances mean the cancer can be cured.
