One in six 16-65-year-olds in the UK suffer from migraines, and for many of those summer in particular means pain. In this video, media GP Dr Catherine Hood explores what they are, and how a summer migraine can be eased.

The Migraine Trust has put together their top 10 tips for being migraine smart, to help sufferers reduce the number of attacks and lower the impact migraines have on their lives:
- See your doctor and get a diagnosis
- Understand your medication: why you're taking it, how much and what it does
- Learn about your migraine triggers
- Understand the difference between a migraine and a headache
- Keep a migraine diary for 3 months
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat regularly and avoid sugary snacks
- Take regular exercise
- Think about lighting and the way you sit and stand, especially at work
- Try to keep to a regular sleep pattern
