The heart is a muscle and like any other muscle it needs a workout. If the thought of working out at the gym is fills you with fear, don't worry, there are lots of ways you can keep your heart healthy.
Make one change today:
- For short journeys leave the car at home and walk instead.
- Go for a swim - it's excellent for the heart and for toning the whole body.
- Get the bike out of the shed and ride for a change.
- If you have exercise equipment at home, you could do 10 minutes in front of the telly.
- Play with the kids - it's great for the whole family and you don't need to plan anything special - just go to the local park or play a game of football or tennis in the garden.
Long-term plan:
- Set yourself small, manageable goals. We should all do around 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week.
- Set aside just 10 minutes every day to do something active - it could be a brisk walk around the block or climbing the stairs a few times.
- Join a sports club or gym
- If you find it difficult to motivate yourself, make a plan with a friend or your partner to exercise together.
Find out why it's good to be nosy, next.
